Your TV Should be Lonely

by

Have you looked, really looked at what is on your TV lately? I mean, leave behind the ideas about the shows you ‘can’t miss,’ the daydreams about the actor(s) you are never going to get into your bed but really wish you could, & take a good honest look at the content of your weekly viewing.

Take away the soap operas. They have no redeeming value at all – they’ve become so far removed from anything approaching normal life they can’t even be viewed as societal commentary.

Minus the ‘interview’ shows – programs like Oprah or Dr. Phil have little to do with normal people and qualify as blatant voyeurism – except for the fact the people on display want to be watched.

Supposedly ‘Current Affairs’ programs are either blatant advertising for the station’s other offerings or a platform for lies, misquotes and misrepresentation of the truth, bought and paid for by a pre-decided position.

News has little to do with any kind of investigative journalism and a lot to do with manipulation of the general population by those in control – the more fear out there, the more the hierarchy can get away with. Think about how many times socially important announcements come on the same day we get bad war news, or a terrorist strike is reported.

Reality TV is everything except ‘reality’ – these are exhibitionists, pure and simple. They go on the show to be rampant and to shock. And if they aren’t prepared to do that, they either get encouraged into it or they don’t get on the shows. These are ‘look at me, look at me’ people with little or no thought for anything in the universe but themselves.

On the other hand, your computer will do almost anything YOU decide it should. You can sit by yourself playing games, join a community, join an online game, research your next book, find out things you never dreamed you could know, and expose yourself to virtual strangers (pun intended) in ways you’d never dream of doing in face world.

So, which is better for you? The one that has you sitting being a sponge while people you wouldn’t dream of program your reality? Or the one that allows you to create a new life and find extraordinary facets of the world around you?
