What can a Computer Do?

by JM

I guess we all know the basics about computers and the range of what they are capable of. In an earlier post I mentioned Mr JM’s idea about the ‘Oh Fuck’ reaction when a person sees, for the first time, a computer do the one thing that grabs their imagination.

As a result of some very ingenious and persistent people (called programmers) we have a multitude of things that people do on their computers. Typing up letters and performing calculations using a spreadsheet (the original uses of the IBM PC that got people buying them) are still common uses, although those who learned to do it in the early days would hardly recognize the processes now.

These days we can upload and manipulate photos and videos, play games that verge on reality or unreality, play or make music, research libraries around the world and even play music or learn to play musical instruments.

One use that is increasingly intriguing is a fairly new technology called hemisync. (sometimes holosync) The brain generates minute electrical waves that have become known as Beta (normal consciousness mode) Alpha (hyper aware or learning mode) Theta (deep relaxation or meditation mode) and Delta (deep sleep mode)

Increasingly, these modes are finding use for altering brain states using a technique known as Binaural Beats & Brainwave Entrainment.
Binaural Beats: When two frequencies are delivered, one to each ear via headphones, separated by (say) 10Hz, (say 100Hz to left ear and 110Hz to right ear) the brain will construct a ‘beat’ of 10Hz apparently heard by both.
Brainwave Entrainment: When the brain hears a binaural beat for a short time (about 6 – 7 minutes) it comes into sync with the beat and follows it.

In other words, the brain can be led into a brain state of Beta, Alpha, Theta or Delta and experience the effects of that state.

And computers are a perfect tool for producing and playing back the hemisync frequencies. Try googling either word – look for free downloads and try them out. The Torrent sites have a wide variety – hemisyncs are available for many different effects, from relaxation through to the realms of higher consciousness.
