Entraining the Brain

by JM

I’ve been having some fun playing around with Mind Workstation – it’s another program for using and developing holosync tracks for aiding meditation and health. Mind Workstation

With Mind Workstation there is not only the chance to use your computer to guide your brain state (see What can a Computer Do?) using the technology of Binaural Beats and Brainwave Entrainment, but also use biofeedback to have the software respond to what is happening in your head and body.

Biofeedback (or Neurofeedback) is a technology where the body signals are read and used by your computer to modify sights and sounds produced by the software. What signals are collected depends on which sensors are used. Before we met, Mr JM had bought software called ‘Journey to the Wild Divine – The Passage’ which came with the LightStone. It has finger sensors that measure skin conductance and heart data.

There is also equipment that uses head sensors to measure EEG (electroencephalograph) signals from the brain and blood temperature to show brain activity.

So your computer can actually emulate equipment worth many thousands of dollars in use in the better hospitals and universities around the world.

Why do it? Well, many people have an inner desire to find a purpose for their lives, to satisfy a sense that there must be more to this life than the day-to-day existence. Very few people have the decades of earnest effort and patience required to achieve Zen Roshi or Buddhist monk abilities. These technologies off a shortcut towards those goals.

There is also an increasing amount of evidence that meditation and mind or brain health brings about physical health. Worth trying in my view.
