Safe, secure and FREE!

Thursday, June 21st, 2007

Can’t get much better than that in computerland, right? Well, courtesy of one of our readers, Marco, I am including information for you that will hopefully make your life easier. For one, there will be no passwords to remember, and another, no financial outlay.

The site is known as clipperz. and there are many links for various browsers. So, as always, I will include this information for you as given by Marco:

Clipperz is more than an online password manager. Clipperz can be
used to
> store and freely organize any kind of confidential textual
information, such
> as passwords, confidential notes, burglar alarm codes, credit and
debit card
> details, PINs, software keys, and so on.
> Clipperz is free and completely anonymous.
> Nothing to install. Nothing to backup.
>
> Clipperz lets you submit confidential information into your browser,
but
> your data are locally encrypted by the browser itself before being
> uploaded.
>
> The key for the encryption process is a pass phrase known only to you. Clipperz simply hosts your sensitive data in encrypted form and could never actually access the data in original form.
>

> FEATURES
>
> - Direct logins
> Users can save the details of their online accounts into Clipperz and quickly create a “direct login” link: just one click to authenticate and access the online service without typing a username and password. Highly addictive!

- Offline copy
> Users can store encrypted data from Clipperz servers to a local hard disk or USB drive and create a read-only version of Clipperz to be used when no Internet connection is available. (such as a road trip or slow internet).

>
> - As always, an edition for Firefox sidebar:
Clipperz Compact is a stripped down edition designed for the Firefox sidebar. It makes “direct logins” even more addictive http:/

THANKS and let me know how things are clipping along! Please give me your opinions so I can pass them along. Comments right on here are welcomed and encouraged!!

What’s good about computers?

Tuesday, June 19th, 2007

Well, it depends largely upon your age and what you will use them for. If you are a senior, chances are you want to check your email and stocks. So, go ahead and do that. Save your “bookmarks” as “favorites” in Internet Explorer. Guard against saving or giving passwords to anyone!

If you are a teen, however, you may use them for or AIM. (AOL’s instant messenger). Your parents will not want you to use the Internet for talking to strangers, however, so make sure your list consists of only those you know personally.

You may also want to use your computer for work, as I do many times. I write several blogs and articles for different venues, so even in the Summertime, I am still Internet Active most days.

I would like to hear what you have to say about your good use of computers and surprises it may have brought. Happy Computing Everyone!

SPAM catcher

Tuesday, June 5th, 2007

Yes, you too can use this in your daily lives! If you get those irritating, annoying, degradating viagara, cialis, LOAN, Lottery, eBay suspension notices then you know what I mean.

Nearly all forms of email these days have some kind of spam catcher. Simply mark the item as “spam” and away it goes. These filters are “trained” to trap the junk and keep the rest, but it’s always a good idea to check your “junk” and “spam” folders each time to make sure it didn’t get a “good” email. Keep your address list/book up to date and this will help ensure you receive the emails you should.

Incidently, I do not know how spam happens except that it isn’t all humans anymore. Some is automated with something called “spiders” that crawl and check out websites and “steal” email addresses when you visit a site. For more on spiders, go to:

This should be an interesting visit.

I cannot honestly believe even I get that type of traffic “trapped” in my comments folder on this website. Do they really think I’m gonna let that go through? Give it up, people. It will never happen. Anyway, I hope to hear from my “legitimate” visitors soon! Any topic comment is welcome. Past, present or ideas for future computer discussions! Happy Day to all!

No, you won’t break me…

Monday, June 4th, 2007

The computer, that is!!

Most of my clients tend to stick with email as their primary function on the computer. They know it. It’s like an old friend to them. It’s easy, relatively safe and allows them to keep in touch with relatives and friends near and far. They are petrified to venture into the unknown, unchartered waters of the web, CD burning, photos, music or anything else.

I am here to let you (and them) know that their computer is nothing to be afraid of! It won’t bite and you certainly can’t break them easily by “pressing an incorrect key.” This used to be the case in years past, when computers required users to know more about the physical makeup of a computer and had to insert a boot or program disk to make it work.

Today things have changed. Computers are “user friendly” and have many help features built in.

One feature I wish to point out is the F1key. You see it up there in the left hand corner of your keyboard? It’s next to the Esckey. This is the help feature used in Windows and many other software programs you will use. Yes, even your CD burning program probably has one. There’s probably even a “tutorial” on one of the menus.

Don’t be afraid to explore. Open and close icons, menus and the like. If you get lost, so what. You can always go back and start again.

For help getting started using a computer you can try this link. It looked interesting and it’s not in “computer jargon.” It states over 50, but all will relate to the material: Mixes Internet with the actual computer hardware/system information. Let me know how you like it or if you have other links that have helped you.

If you have questions or comments, I’d love to hear them. Always interesting on the subject of “computer intimidation.”

Ready for faster Internet?

Monday, June 4th, 2007

I’m sorry, but dial up just isn’t worth your time anymore! Or an extra phone line, or tying up YOUR current phone line. It’s utterly ridiculous! Two hours to wait for a song to download or several minutes for a photo? Come on! It’s time you moved up in the world, and sometimes down in price over your current provider.

Try AT&T Yahoo DSL! If you have a new computer, great, no time like the present to install this. If you have an older model, it works on everything Windows 98 and HIGHER. So, when you sign up online, tell them what version of Windows you are running. If you’re buying a new computer, make sure they send you the Windows Vista Version.

If you sign up online, you’ll get a great price of around 15 bucks a month! Not bad, hey? (Sorry, not available outside of USA).
Here’s how you sign up, click:
or type in attreferrals.com

Once their website is on your screen, look at the middle column, almost towards the center of the page. In the box where it asks Did Someone refer you? Type in: KH9747001 and your billing telephone number and click the GO box.

This will take you to another screen. And, no, you do not have to be an AT&T or Bellsouth customer to take advantage of this offer. They will tell you if their services (online billing, phone, DSL, etc) are available for your area. Consider a package deal such as DISH network, AT&T wireless phone, home phone and DSL for your family or yourself. You’d save a bit of hard-earned cash and get good services.

I recommend this highly. This DSL connection is the cheapest high-speed Internet out there. I get it for any of my clieints that do not already have high-speed. The cable company charges an enormous amount in comparison and jacks up the price after a set time.

Well, if you have any questions, please drop me a comment. I have not heard from many of you! I’m always available to answer your questions.

Good GOOGLE!

Friday, June 1st, 2007

It’s Friday here, so I’m wrapping up our series on Google. So far you guys have been very quiet on this blog, so now it’s YOUR turn!

I’m turning the tables on YOU! I want to know what your questions are on this beast:
Tell me how YOU use Google, or if you just started, how you LIKE it!

On their Tool bar you’ll find a “page rank” for the websites. This is optional to display. BUT if you have a commerce website of any sort, you will want this ranking to be a higher one. Some people make a hobby out of observing page ranks.

On the business website, I’m told by registering this site for three years with I can have a higher Google rating. One never knows about these things, and as far as I know, that site hasn’t moved up much.

If you haven’t yet visited my site, designed by yours truly, please do so!

Have a great weekend everyone! By all means, please send your questions and comments. This is an interactive blog!!

See you all next week (or sooner if you comment!)
